2017 BA CityFlyer Mentored Airline Pilot Scheme launched with FTEJerez

BA CityFlyer’s Mentored Scheme has been developed with training partner, FTEJerez, to provide the airline (a wholly owned subsidiary of British Airways) with a source of pre-selected pilots to crew their Embraer aircraft.

Captain Steve Cook, Head of Flight Operations at BA CityFlyer said that successful candidates will undertake training under the Multi-crew Pilots Licence (MPL) route to the right-hand seat of their aircraft. This course has been specifically designed to teach all of the key elements necessary for cadets to successfully transition to a BA CityFlyer flight deck position.

BA CityFlyer are looking for up to 6 mentored pilots who will be offered positions on courses commencing training at Jerez on the 17th November 2017. Throughout training, the BA CityFlyer cadet’s performance will be monitored by FTEJerez’s training team and cadet progress will be mentored throughout the course by the BA CityFlyer Liaison Pilot.

If successful throughout the 54 week training course at FTEJerez, no further selection will be required by BA CityFlyer and cadets will flow straight into an Embraer type rating course paid by the airline.

To be eligible for this scheme, applicants must have a minimum of 2 A-Level passes, Grade C or above (or equivalent), and have 5 GCSE passes including Maths, English and a Science subject at Grade C or above, as well as the right to live and work in the UK.

Candidates will be able to apply for positions on the scheme between the 5th and 18th of June 2017 inclusive. Those who meet initial criteria will be forwarded, via email, a series of questions that must be returned within the specified period.

Should an application be successful in progressing to the next phase, candidates will be required to travel, at their own expense, to BA CityFlyer’s headquarters at Manchester. Currently, this one-day selection phase is expected to take place between the 10th and the 13th July 2017 inclusive.

The final element of the selection process will be a BA CityFlyer airline interview. This will, once again, take place in Manchester between the 2nd and 4th August 2017 inclusive.

Successful applicants will have to fund FTEJerez’s MPL programme, the price for this course is GBP £89,100.

The course price is inclusive of the following:

  • Accommodation and Full Board
  • Full uniform (except shoes)
  • 1st attempt, ground and flying EASA exams
  • Renewal of the EASA Class One Medical
  • All training material
  • Landing and navigation fees

We are delighted to be launching yet another MPL scheme with FTEJerez, as both companies continue to strengthen their longstanding relationship.

Oscar Sordo, FTEJerez CEO, commented, “We are delighted to continue to be chosen once again as BA CityFlyer’s training provider for the MPL programme.
