CAE extends MPL Program with Japan Airlines

CAE has extended the Japan Airlines (JAL) Multi-Crew Pilot Licence (MPL) First Officer Program for 3 additional years to a total of 10 years, effective until October 2023. Under the renewed agreement, 24 additional cadets will be selected to begin MPL training for the Japanese airline.

At Japan Airlines, we are committed to creating highly competent professional pilots and we have been impressed by the high quality training delivered through the first MPL program. As such, we are pleased to extend the length of the program and train new cadets,” said Shigeki Washio, Vice President of Flight Training and Check Standards, Japan Airlines.

In 2013, Japan Airlines selected CAE for a tailored MPL training program. Since launch, more than 100 cadets have been selected and are undergoing their training as First Officers for Japan Airlines, the first cadets completed the program in Phoenix in December 2015. The renewal of this contract brings the total cadets enrolled in this innovative program to more than 240.

MPL is a training and licensing methodology used to develop ab initio students directly into First Officers within a specific commercial airline environment. An estimated 1,000 MPL graduates are now flying with airlines in Asia and Europe.
