Border Air Training bought by Cloud Global Group

Cloud Global, based at Perth airfield in Scotland, have purchased Carlisle-based Border Air Training in a deal that will significantly expand Cloud Global’s flight training operations.

Border Air Training has been operating flying schools at Carlisle Airport in Cumbria and Cumbernauld Airport in central Scotland for 26 years. The deal also includes the acquisition of ‘Fly Scenic Scotland’ who operate sightseeing flights and provide aircraft charter services throughout the UK. The Fly Scenic has announced several new routes from Oban and Carlisle Airports and also provides aircraft for specialised activities such as agriculture, construction, photography, surveying, observation, patrol and aerial advertisement.

The purchase of Border Air Training and Fly Scenic Scotland will create an operation with a combined turnover of £4m and a workforce of 30 employees.

Cloud Global Group director Graeme Frater, said: “We had been looking for an opportunity to expand the company and we felt Border Air Training and Fly Scenic Scotland provided an excellent fit with our business model. We see this as a very exciting development for both companies. Our strategy of developing various divisions has proven very successful and this deal will allow us to explore new opportunities.

The latest developments at Cloud Global come on the back of the purchase of Perth-based ACS Aviation Ltd in November 2016. The Cloud Global Group now has bases at Glasgow, Cumbernauld, Perth, Oban and Carlisle Airports. The group says that it plans to develop all areas of the business over the coming 12 months and is currently recruiting to add flying instructors, administrators, commercial pilots and aircraft engineers to its team.
