Aer Lingus open Fully-Funded ‘Future Pilot Programme’

Aer Lingus says that it is looking for future pilots from diverse backgrounds to meet its projected expansion plans. Aer Lingus will continue its tradition of training ab-initio pilots with fully sponsored and mentored pilot training, commencing in late 2019.

Successful candidates will begin a training programme lasting over 14 months in collaboration with Aer Lingus’ preferred flight training school, FTE Jerez in Spain.

The cadets will then return to Aer Lingus to commence a type rating course and begin a career as a First Officer on Airbus A320 (and A321 LR NEO aircraft from 2021).

Essential criteria for applicants include:
• 18 years of age on or before 1st January 2019;
• Fluent in written and spoken English;
• Eligible to live and work permanently in the EU;
• Up-to-date unrestricted worldwide passport;
• Able to pass an airport security vetting procedure, including a five-year background check*;
• Two verifiable references;
• Able to obtain an EASA / IAA-issued Class 1 Medical, including successfully passing a colour blindness test.

Applicants are asked to refer to www.iaa.ie prior to application to ensure they can meet all medical requirements in line with eyesight/colour blindness limitations.

Applicants who are not an Irish citizen will require a current police disclosure certificate from their home country if successful. Applicants who have resided outside the Republic of Ireland for six months or more, will also require a current police disclosure certificate from that country/countries.

Minimum Educational criteria include:
• Must have passed Leaving Certificate (6 subjects) or equivalent;
• Must have obtained O5 grades in English and Mathematics at ordinary level or H6 at higher level in the Leaving Certificate;
• Must also have a minimum of 2 higher level subjects with a minimum of H5 grades in the Leaving Certificate.
*Equivalent grades are as follows:
o GCSE Maths and English must be minimum of grade C plus;
o 3 A Levels taken at A2 level in any subject with minimum grades C,C,D.
Where the minimum Leaving Certificate or equivalent grades have not been met, the applicant must have one of the following qualifications:
• A minimum of a Level 7 third level (ordinary degree) in any discipline;
• Completed an aviation-related apprenticeship.

All completed online application forms must be submitted by 16.00 UTC on Monday 8th July 2019. Aer Lingus say that no further applications will be accepted after that time, and candidates will receive an email acknowledging that the company has received the application.

Candidates who progress through screening will receive on-line assessments and will be given 72 hours to complete these (Aer Lingus advise that it is in the candidate’s best interest to complete the assessments as soon as possible. After this time the link will no longer be available).

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to the group assessment stage which will be held in Dublin between Monday 9th September and Friday 20th September 2019.

Candidates may also be asked to re-take the online assessments during the assessment centre, part of the selection process involves passing a Class 1 and a company medical.
