Italian ATO Urbe Aero Flight Academy has announced a new commercial pilot training partnership with Wizz Air. The Wizz Air Pathway Programme pre-selects cadets for future roles with the low cost carrier before they embark on an 18-month integrated ATPL training programme with Urbe Aero.
On successful completion of training, graduates will then complete A320 type rating training with Wizz Air before joining the airline as first officers. “We are thrilled to launch this new partnership with Wizz Air, an undisputed leader in the European airline landscape, with whom we have worked intensively to realize this ambitious project,” says Lorenzo Mezzadri, Accountable Manager of Urbe Aero Flight Academy.
“Our Academy has invested considerable resources to provide a top-level infrastructure, technologies, and fleet, guaranteeing cutting-edge training that responds to the challenges of the current market. Moreover, we have continued to strengthen ties with major airlines to guarantee career opportunities once the licence is obtained. This partnership with Wizz Air is no exception, replicating a successful training model already experiment with other airlines, which will allow us to support Wizz Air in the selection and training of highly competent and professional airline pilots.”
Attila Tovari, Wizz Air ATO Head of Training, said: “We are pleased to start the partnership with Urbe Aero Flight Academy for recruiting new pilots at an exciting time of continued and unprecedented growth for Wizz Air. The Wizz Air Pathway Programme offers aspiring pilots high quality training and development, industry leading facilities with the support of an experienced flight school and in line with Wizz Air’s training standards to help make their dream of becoming a pilot, a reality. Once successfully graduated, we are delighted to offer the opportunity of a secure job and excellent chances for career growth, a competitive salary, and a compensation and benefits package. We look forward to meeting the next generation of Wizz Air pilots.”
Transitioning from an aircraft dealer to flight academy, Urbe Aero has grown over the last 20 years to become one of Europe’s leading ATOs. The academy’s fleet consists of 19 modern Diamond aircraft, both single and twin-engine (DA20 C1, DA40 NG and DA42-VI), all equipped with Garmin glass-cockpit avionics, and one CAP10C acrobatic aircraft for upset prevention and recovery training (UPRT). Completing the fleet are two modern flight simulators, representing a Diamond DA42-VI and a Boeing 737 MAX, with an additional Airbus 320neo simulator due to come online soon.
Urbe Aero is based at Aeroporto Roma Urbe on a 2,500sqm site including hangars, offices, and leading-edge multimedia classrooms, designed to facilitate both in-person and distance learning. The school employs a team of over 50 highly qualified instructors, both for theoretical and flight training and has over 170 active students currently undergoing training with them.
