TUI announces 2024 MPL cadet programme

TUI has announced that it is opening a multi-crew pilot licence (MPL) cadet programme. The airline will finance all training costs and licence fees for the 19 month course. The Application process for the cadet programme will start in January 2024, with successful candidates eventually being offered a position to join TUI as a cadet pilot.

The TUI MPL course has been announced just after British Airways invites hopefuls to apply for its ‘fully funded’ Speedbird Pilot Academy programme.

According to the TUI careers website, the operator is looking for ‘committed, resilient and hard-working,’ candidates. Other attributes must include ‘great communication and leadership skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.’  TUI also ask that candidates must have sufficient resilience to complete the challenging course, and motivation to learn to become professional pilots.

The TUI MPL course consists of three phases.

Phase 1 – ATPL Ground School (Theoretical Knowledge Instruction). During this phase cadets will study the required theoretical knowledge and complete the 13 ground school exams.

Phase 2 – Basic Flying Training. The Basic flying training will be in a Robin DR401 aircraft owned by TUI and cadets will complete approximately 62 hours of flying. During this phase cadets will complete upset prevention and recovery training (UPRT) which will be completed over three hours on an advanced trainer aircraft.

Phase 3 – Intermediate & Advanced Flying Training. This will take place in a 737 simulator where cadets will operate in a multi-crew environment using TUI procedures from day one. Cadets will complete approximately 270 hours in the simulator, and this will include the completion of a type rating.

In addition to funding all course and training costs, TUI will pay for accommodation from phase 2 onwards, uniform, and the initial Class 1 medical and renewals during training. Cadets will be responsible for personal travel costs, food, and personal living expenses.

TUI cadet pilot salary for four years, which will include repayment of training costs to TUI via salary sacrifice. This salary is currently £32,867 (post deduction) and will increase in line with pilot pay scheduling agreements.

In order to apply for the TUI MPL cadet programme candidates must be at least 18 years of age on or before 1st September 2024.

Have at least five GCSEs including Maths, English and a Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or combined science) at grade C/4 or above, or equivalent qualifications.

Be fluent in English (verbal and written). Be eligible to live and work indefinitely in the UK without additional approvals.
