Ryanair has added over 11,000 extra seats from the UK ahead of Euro 2024 taking place in Germany this June. High passenger traffic levels for the international footballing event is causing Ryanair to add extra capacity on some of its existing key routes, including London Stansted and Manchester.
The Irish low cost carrier (LCC) is also launching new routes for the event from Edinburgh, Bristol, and Glasgow on a temporary basis.
Head of communications, Ryanair, Jade Kirwan said: “It’s going to be an epic summer of football with the return of the Euros this June. To celebrate and make sure all footy fans can enjoy the Championship in-person, Ryanair has added over 11,000 extra seats between Germany and the UK throughout June.
“This includes extra capacity on existing routes as well as the addition of several special one-off flights, including Edinburgh to Memmingen, Bristol to Frankfurt and Glasgow to Cologne ensuring that all fans can cheer on their team from a stadium seat and soak in the match-day atmosphere.”
The move comes after all the latest International Air Transport Association (IATA) forecast indicators point to a strong summer seasons and traffic growth.
Yet as operators take advantage of prevalent tail-winds, IATA director general Willie Walsh issues a warning, saying. “While airlines are prepared for customer care and assistance when operational issues arise, they are fed-up of bearing the cost when delays and cancellations are the result of poor preparation in other parts of the value chain.”
