Leading Edge Aviation (LEAL) has announced the launch of a new funded fATPL/Flight Instructor training programme, covering up to 85% of training costs.
LEAL’s new training programme will see cadets complete training with the academy, gaining a frozen Air Transport Pilot Licence (fATPL) and Flight Instructor (FI) rating, ahead of commencing two years’ employment as an FI at LEAL’s Alhama de Murcia training base in southern Spain.
The programme is open to both modular and integrated training pathways. Applicants with a PPL can apply to LEAL’s modular training programme, which will take them from PPL level up to fATPL/FI on a structured course costing just £20,000, with all additional fees, including accommodation, paid for by LEAL. Graduates will then be bonded to work as FIs for the academy for two years before being released to apply for airline positions.
The integrated training option is open to applicants who have zero prior flying experience, with cadets also graduating with fATPL/FI privileges and joining the academy as FIs for two years. The cost contribution for this route is £30,000.
Commenting on the new funded programme, Andy McFarlane, CEO of Leading Edge Aviation, said: “We recognise that the cost of pilot training is a significant barrier for many talented individuals. Our new programme is designed to break down these financial barriers and provide a clear, affordable path to a rewarding career in aviation. We are committed to training the next generation of pilots and flight instructors, ensuring a steady supply of skilled professionals for the aviation industry.”
The programme opened on 13 July 2024, announced at the Pilot Careers Live event held at the Concorde Centre at Manchester Airport. Applications are open to those aged 18 and over with a minimum of five GCSEs at Grade 4 or above (including Maths, English, and Science).
Selected applicants will undergo a series of assessments and interviews scheduled through October, with the winners announced by 18 October 2024.
