Aerohire Flight Training has opened a second base at Wolverhampton Halfpenny Green Airport as part of its ongoing expansion plans.
The school, which has operated at the West Midlands airport since 2019, has operated out of a portacabin for the last five years, before taking over its second facility last month, providing the school with much needed extra space and room to grow.
The new facility comprises briefing rooms, flight planning facility, offices, rest areas, a bar, and outside area with seating and the school’s new pizza oven, already proving popular with Aerohire’s members.
According to school director Ryan Knowles, this second facility will provide the school with an opportunity to expand from a Declared Training Organisation (DTO) to an Approved Training Organisation (ATO), affording the opportunity to start providing commercial pilot training programmes on top of the PPL, LAPL, Night and Aerobatics training currently delivered.
A team of five instructors / examiners and two ground staff run the school, operating a fleet of ten aircraft, including three Cessna 150s, two Cessna 172s, two Piper Cherokees, a Piper Warrior II, a Piper Arrow II, and an aerobatic Beagle Pup. In addition to the flight training activity, Aerohire also has a busy self-fly hire business.
Elsewhere on the airport, the café – Amelia’s Bar & Restaurant – has undergone an extensive revamp and has attracted a lot of positive comment and, judging by the amount of clientele patronising it the last time FTN visited, it’s proving to be a great success.
