FINAL CALL: HCAP 2025 PPL scholarships

The application window for the 2025 series of PPL scholarships provided by the Honourable Company of Air Pilots (HCAP) is closing tomorrow (07 January).

Valued at over £10,000 per scholarship, successful applicants will receive funding to cover the cost of flight training, which typically includes the minimum number of hours required to achieve a PPL, as well as ground school, exams, and other associated costs. The goal of the scholarship is to provide recipients with the skills they need to obtain their PPL and open up further opportunities within the aviation industry.

The scholarships are open to individuals aged between 17 and 25 with a focus on those who have shown exceptional enthusiasm for aviation, whether through personal experience or a long-standing interest in flying, but may not have the funding available to achieve their dreams.

The application process for the HCAP scholarships is rigorous, designed to identify individuals who not only show promise as pilots but also possess qualities such as dedication, leadership, and a strong commitment to the principles of aviation safety. Applicants are required to complete an online application form, which includes a personal statement outlining their motivation for applying, any previous experience with aviation, and why they are passionate about flying.

The selection process is based on a combination of factors, including:

  • Motivation and Commitment: Applicants must demonstrate a clear desire to become a pilot and a long-term commitment to the aviation profession.
  • Previous Experience: While previous flying experience is not mandatory, applicants with experience in aviation or related fields are given preference. This could include having flown with a local flying club, having experience in air cadets, or having participated in other flying-related activities.
  • Personal Statement: The personal statement allows applicants to showcase their personality, commitment, and aspirations within aviation. Strong candidates will clearly explain why they want to pursue flying and how they intend to make the most of the opportunity provided by the scholarship.
  • Interview Process: Successful applicants will be invited to attend an interview, where they will meet members of the Honourable Company of Air Pilots. The interview focuses on assessing the applicant’s passion, communication skills, and overall suitability for the scholarship.

Each applicant will be reviewed by a panel of experts, including senior members of HCAP, experienced aviators, and professionals in the aviation industry. The panel looks for a mix of qualities, including determination, a desire to learn, and an ability to excel in challenging environments.

Those whose applications are taken forward will be invited to interview in London on 02 or 03 April. Candidates must be over the age of 17 on 01 June 2025 and willing to undertake their PPL training during the summer of 2025, finishing no later than 26 September.
