The Honourable Company of Air Pilots (HCAP) launched its 2024 Gliding Scholarships at the Pilot Careers Live event held at Heathrow.
The scholarships provide a one-week residential course at an approved British Gliding Association (BGA) training centre with an aim to take the scholar as far as completing their first solo flight.
The scholarships are open to people over the age of 16 and are flown at designated Youth Gliding Centres in the UK, designed to support the BGA Junior Gliding Movement which caters for pilots under the age of 25.
The application window is open until midday 06 February 2024, with candidates called for interview on either 16 or 17 April 2024 and informed of the available course dates and asked to confirm their preference. Courses will take place during the 2024 school summer holidays (July and/or Aug).
Entry criteria includes:
- Must be able to satisfy the NPPL medical requirement (see here )
- Must be aged at least 16 on 01 July 2024
- Must be under 6’ 4” height and under 16st 4lb (103.5kg) weight
